Join women celebrating women with author Jessica Rinker on March 16. Jessica Rinker is the author of Gloria Takes a Stand, a children’s biography of Gloria Steinem.
This Saturday, Jessica Rinker is inviting the community to join her in celebrating the launch of her new children’s book. Gloria Takes a Stand tells the story of Steinem’s journey from an unconventional childhood, to Smith College, to Ms. Magazine, to the women’s liberation movement … to feminist icon! The spirited book hopes to energize a new generation of women to stand up and demand equal rights for all people.
Rather than host a traditional book launch, it was important to Rinker to celebrate the ongoing work of women who bring positive change to their lives and their communities.
“I want to celebrate my book, but I also want to celebrate the collective work of women. And bringing together a group of community leaders in what Gloria refers to as a ‘talking circle’ to discuss how better to help or change their communities, is my way to continue her teachings,” explains Ms. Rinker.
A diverse group of community leaders will join Rinker in a panel discussion and talking circle. Participants will be talking about how they make change in their communities through the various facets of their lives. This includes mothers, daughters, professionals, artists and activists.
The Launch Party and Community Talking Circle:

“Celebrating stories is what The Book Garden is all about and we are honored to be celebrating the story of our friend and neighbor, Jess. I can’t think of anyone better to introduce Gloria Steinem to a new generation because Jess’ personal story reflects what Gloria Steinem wants women to embrace – their own strength and resilience,” adds Ms. Scutt.
