One of the first steps you will take after getting engaged is deciding whether you want to have an indoor wedding or if you’d prefer to say “I do” outdoors. There are hundreds of churches, synagogues, and other venues throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania if you prefer a more traditional wedding. However, if you’ve always dreamed of a beach wedding complete with sundress and sunset, or getting hitched in your back yard, then you’ll have a different set of priorities to consider.

Indoor Wedding Pros:

  • Weather-Proof: One of the biggest perks about an indoor wedding is that it’s weather-proof. There could be a hurricane outside, but you won’t risk ruining your dress. Wind won’t destroy your hair or decorations, and your guests won’t be shivering if the temperature is cold.
  • Noise Control: An outdoor wedding can be subject to a number of things outside of the control of the wedding party, including car horns, planes, construction, etc. If your wedding is indoors at a hall or other reserved space, you don’t have to worry about those external noise factors.
  • Privacy: If you get married on the beach or other public place, you risk having strangers stopping to stare. An indoor ceremony and/or reception behind closed doors is more private and intimate.

Outdoor Wedding Pros:

  • Creative Freedom: If you’re not very religious, outdoor weddings provide a lot of flexibility that you can’t always get when getting married in a church or synagogue. Some churches are strict about sticking to conservative traditions, so if you’re looking for the creative freedom to have as modern of a wedding as possible, an outdoor ceremony might be for you.
  • Cost: A lot of people choose to get married in a religious setting and then have a reception at a hall. This requires two different payments. If you’re doing an outdoor wedding, however, especially in the backyard of your home, you won’t pay the cost of renting a space for a set number of hours, and you have more flexibility with the number of guests you can host.
