We’re currently somewhere between polar vortex and spring equinox – a time of year when we start to go a bit stir crazy from sitting in the house. Call it cabin fever. Here are a few ideas to getting your groove back.

(We’ve included some tips featuring our 2018 Hunterdon Happening List Winners. Click here to vote for your local favorites in the 2019 Happening List.)

Challenge your Noodle

Get those neurons firing again by remembering all those inconsequential facts you thought you’d forgotten. Trivia nights are the best of group think and with plenty of laughs.

Tip: Try 2018 Hunterdon Happening Winner Mrs. Riley’s Public House in High Bridge on the third Tuesday of each month.

Invite a Friend Out for Coffee

Catching up with a good friend or getting to know a new acquaintance is best over a warm drink, particularly in the grips of winter.

Tip: Enjoy locally roasted beans and a freshly made croissant at 2018 Hunterdon Happening Winner Scout’s Coffee Bar in High Bridge. Then head out to view the waterfall at Ken Lockwood Gorge a few footsteps away.

Take a Day Trip to a Tropical Oasis

Find a local arboretum to traipse around, giving you a taste of spring and the warmth and sunshine that lies ahead.

Tip: Check out Beneduce Wine in Pittstown, a 2018 Hunterdon Happening Winner that hosts “group therapy” every weekend on its stone patio, decked out as a tropical oasis. Sip wine around the bonfire while listening to live music.

Plan a Day Out with Friends at a Spa

Nothing takes the winter blues away like sitting in a sauna or hot tub, then getting a massage, facial and spray tan to remind you sunnier days are on the horizon.

Tip: Take advantage of Euphoria Studio’s intimate spa which is perfect for a day out with friends. The Frenchtown-based 2018 Hunterdon Happening List Winner can accommodate groups up to five people.

Book Some Court Time

While outdoor tennis courts may be covered in snow or ice, indoor courts are warm and welcoming. Winter is the perfect time to work on a backhand or learn a new sport like pickleball.

Tip: 2018 Hunterdon Happening Winner Courtside Racquet Club in Lebanon offers lessons, rentable courts and “social pickle” on Monday nights.
