COVID is definitely wreaking havoc on this year’s football season, between fans being barred from watching live play and outbreaks that are causing games to be postponed. But football fans are diehards. A decent large screen television along with some suds and grub make life seem as nothing’s changed at all. Here are a few places worth a taking a time out this year:
Lambertville Station – Hunterdon Happening List Winner for Best Outdoor Dining
11 Bridge Street, Lambertville
This riverside favorite restaurant and pub has an outdoor bar with televisions so you can watch the game. Outdoor heaters have been set up to keep everyone comfortable.
Chelsea’s Restaurant and Pub – Hunterdon Happening List Winner for Best Wings and Burger
1051 Route 22, Lebanon
Open for both indoor and outdoor dining. There’s a special menu for football games on Sunday. The wings are renowned, making it a Hunterdon Happening List Winner for the past 6 years.
Harper’s Table – Hunterdon Happening List Winner for Best Beer Bar
1316 Route 31 N., Annandale
On Sundays, this popular restaurant featuring old barn beam siding offers drink specials and half-priced wings. It will also host an Octoberfest and an outdoor comedy club. Bring your own chair.
Cryan’s – Hunterdon Happening List Winner Best Sports Bar
2 Beaver Avenue, Annandale
A popular haunt for football fans, it has beer and pizza specials during Sunday games. With limited seating, get there early or consider an order to go. Outdoor seating is available by reservation. Indoor seating is first come, first serve.
Artie’s Bar and Grill – Hunterdon Happening List Winner for Best Live Music Venue
1121 Route 12, Frenchtown
With a large outdoor bar and seating area, this is a popular spot for watching football games or listening to music. And you can’t go wrong with the wings.
Applebee’s Flemington
244 Route 202, Flemington
This particular Applebee’s location has a great selection of locally made craft beers on tap. On Sundays it offers football food and drink specials. It’s a 2019 Hunterdon Happening List Winner for Best Onion Rings.
American Spirits Roadhouse
1090 Route 173, Asbury
A 2019 Hunterdon Happening List Winner for Best Music Venue, it now offers both an indoor and outdoor bar with a flea market on Sundays. A great place to watch a game, with a bar surrounded by flat screen TVs and light beer specials on Sundays.
Chimney Rock Inn
41 Route 31, Flemington
The third pub in Chimney Rock Inn’s chain, this newest location opened on Route 31. It offers drink and food specials during football games. Outdoor dining is available until 9 p.m. On Tuesdays, it offers a taco and tequila special.

Gronsky Milk House – Hunterdon Happening List Winner for Best Cheesesteak
125 W. Main Street, High Bridge
This family-owned -convenience-store-turned-ice cream-store-turned-restaurant offers up a hearty breakfast. But it’s also known for its cheesesteaks and pork roll.
Qcrew BBQ Catering – Hunterdon Happening List Finalist for Best Caterer

Order on a “grab-and-go” item on Friday, pick it up Saturday, heat it up Sunday. It’s that simple. Plenty of great barbecue items to choose from and for every 10 pounds of food ordered, this establishment donated 1 pound of food to the Flemington Food Pantry.
