Play miniature golf with the entire family and support the free programs and services of Hunterdon Helpline’s Division of Seniors and Disability Services helping seniors to live safely in their own homes.

Power on for Seniors is Sunday, October 1, at the Pine Creek Miniature Golf Park in Ringoes, NJ, starting at 11am. Prizes, gifts and refreshments top off this fun event to raise funds for much-needed services in the county.

According to Susan Lax, Helpline’s Executive Director, the organization’s programs focusing on seniors help seniors “age in place” with monitoring and social interaction. She said the free programs offer social interaction but also make sure seniors are eating, taking their medications and are connected to important community resources. She said the services also help caregivers and loved ones who cannot be with their family all the time or check in frequently.

Seniors are one of the fastest growing populations in the county, Lax said, and more and more people will be needing services as they age, many well into their 90s. She said the average Helpline client is 85. Programs and services include Telephone Reassurance, calling clients once or several times, the Friendly Visitor Program matching volunteers with clients for social visits and the CHOICES for Seniors Directory listing resources for seniors and caregivers in four counties.

The fee to play is $25 per person and there will be prizes for best individual score and best foursome score. Businesses can sponsor a hole for $50!

To secure your space, please sign up by Sept. 28 by going to www.helplinehc.org/power-on-for-seniors/ and clicking on DONATE or calling 908-782-4357 for more information.
