Fall is here and Hunterdon County is hosting a variety of outdoor events to showcase the beauty of the season. We’ve rounded up a handful of upcoming outdoor events taking place this fall that will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the fall foliage right here in our backyard. Take a look at the events below and sign up for one of these autumn activities.

Tot Walks in the Park

Echo Hill Park, 42 Lilac Drive, Flemington, NJ

Join Ms. Laura to discover nature at your local park. Leave the strollers behind and take a walk to learn about the nature around us. There will be a story and craft on the theme of the session you attend. Select Session A, B, C or D for one or more themes. Dress for the weather as the program will be fully outside. Pre-registration is required.

Outdoor Baby Nature Walks

Dates & locations below

Get outside with your baby and explore local trails. There will be some nature education geared towards the adults. Enjoy the company of other parents and caregivers in the area. You will walk at the pace of the adults and ask that babies be carried or in a stroller. Pre-registration is required for these events. The walks are as follows:

September 22: Columbia Trail, High Bridge Village Commons Parking Lot, 79 Main Street, High Bridge – fine gravel trail appropriate for strollers and carriers

October 20: Landsdown Trail, 113 Lower Landsdown Road, Franklin Township (fine gravel trail appropriate for strollers and carriers)

November 17: Hunterdon County Arboretum, 1020 State Highway 31, Clinton Township (grass and dirt trails appropriate for carriers and robust strollers only)

Playdates in the Park

Dates and locations below

Sit on the grass and experience nature! Join naturalist and new mom, Laura to explore sensory activities, read nature books and play games. Bring a blanket to sit or lay on if desired and dress for the weather. The dates and locations are as follows. This is designed for ages 0-12 months, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required. The event runs from 10 am – 10:30 am.

September 8: Echo Hill Park, 42 Lilac Drive, Clinton Township

October 6: Teetertown Preserve, 40 Pleasant Grove Road, Lebanon Township (meet at the brown garage)

November 3: Hoffman Park, 26 Baptist Church Road, Union Township

Over the Bridge Hike

Hunterdon County Arboretum, NJ
November 18, 2-3:30 pm

Did you know that a tunnel under a highway and a brand-new bridge connect the Arboretum to Echo Hill Park? Meet at the Arboretum and hike the Outer Loop Trail, winding through the display gardens, along the wetland boardwalk, and through pine grove on the far side of the property. Then you will take the tunnel under the highway and the bridge over the Prescott Brook to Echo Hill. You’ll then hike the second loop around Echo Hill, which will pass through the fields and hardwood forests. The total distance of this hike will be about 2 1/2 miles. Enjoy a day out with a naturalist visiting two of the most popular parks.

9th Annual Points of View Art Show & Sale

The Saw Mill @ Prallsville Mill, 33 Risler Street, Stockton, NJ
August 24th – 28th

The 9th Annual Points of View Show and Sale, featuring five award-winning local artists, will once again be presented at The Saw Mill on the grounds of Prallsville Mill. The show opens Thursday, August 24th from 12-5 and continues Friday, August 25th from 12-5, with a reception on Friday evening from 5-8 pm. The show continues Saturday, Sunday and Monday, August 26th-28th from 12-5. Showing their art will be Ilene Rubin, Jeanne Chesterton, Christine Seo, Susan Gilli and Sandy Askey-Adams.

Beaver Walk

Crystal Springs Preserve, Califon Road, Glen Gardner, NJ
November 3, 5:15 pm – 6:15 pm

Come explore the beaver habitats, learn what they eat, how they raise their young and much more. Bring binoculars for easier viewing (also available to borrow). Meet at Crystal Springs, Washington Township, Morris County Land Trust section, located off Califon Road. When you enter Morris County, look for a small street sign on the left that reads “51-55”, make a left into a development, and proceed to the end of the road to the cul-de-sac. The road becomes gravel and is the park entrance. Note: There are no restrooms at this location.

Fall Foliage Hike at Hoffman

Hoffman Park, 26 Baptist Church Road, Union Township, NJ
October 21, 1-3 pm

Hoffman Park is beautiful in every season, but especially in the fall. Enjoy the view of colorful trees from the parking lot, and hike down to identify some up close. You will enjoy goldenrod and other fall wildflowers in the meadows. Be prepared to walk up to 3 miles on relatively flat trails with gradual elevation gain on the return trip. Don’t forget your camera. Meet at the main parking lot.
