Online dating has swept the country over the past few years making meeting single, like-minded companions rather tough if you are not an Internet dweller.  It’s no secret that dating can get even more challenging as we get older.

Since 1994, however, the Hunterdon Walking and Social Club has been trying to change that.  Though the title club is a loose term, being that there is no fee or membership requirement aside from being a 40+ single looking to walk and mingle, was started by Sally Shearer Swenson.  Sally, who sadly passed away in 1998, had brought the idea from Princeton where she had previously lived and been a member of a similar group.  They meet every Sunday evening for a walk and host various social gatherings throughout the year.  Sundays were chosen since Saturdays are often filled with chores and Sundays can tend to get a bit lonely for some singles.  It was Sally’s dream to have a few marriages among the group and on their 20th anniversary they can boast 7 so far as well as several relationships over the years.
