16-18 mile journey from sunset to sunrise

According to  American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s (AFSP), someone dies every 13.7 minutes from suicide.

Gail Seckrettar of Flemington’s All Elements Yoga will participate in the AFSP’s Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk on June 28-29. This 16-18 mile journey in Philadelphia will raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention.

“Part of my work as a yoga and meditation instructor is to help people who are suffering with anxiety, depression and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). By participating in this walk, I hope to bring awareness to anyone struggling with these issues and assure them that assistance and resources are available.”

Proceeds from the Out of the Darkness Overnight support research, prevention, and a variety of education and advocacy programs. More Than Sad is one such educational program on teen depression and suicide prevention that is distributed in high schools across the country.

“It’s time to educate ourselves about mental illness, help those suffering in silence and end the stigma that surrounds suicide,” said Seckrettar.

Seckrettar is hopeful that the community will come together to bring support to those suffering in the dark with depression, anxiety and PTSD in an effort to prevent suicide.

If you have lost a loved one to suicide, contact Gail at info@allelementsyoga.com and she will add their name to her dedication lantern (no donation necessary). Click here to help support Ms. Seckrettar’s efforts.

If you or someone you know is in crisis or having thoughts of suicide, know that help is available. For more information such as risk factors and warning signs, visit www.AFSP.org.
