Hunterdon County is celebrating its 300th birthday and there are many opportunities to celebrate. This month, The Hunterdon County Tricentennial Committee will host a parade and gala.

The parade, to be held Saturday, March 22 in Flemington, will feature floats from local nonprofits and businesses. The Hunterdon Central High School Marching Band and North Hunterdon High School Marching Band will perform.

The parade begins at 4 p.m. After the festivities, stick around for birthday cake and hot chocolate at Court Street Park. To cap it off, organizers are even planning fireworks at dusk at Flemington Raritan Intermediate School, 50 Court St.

Then, on Saturday, March 29, the Tricentennial gala will be held at the historic Grand Colonial Ballroom in Hampton. Attire is semi-formal; black tie is optional.

The evening will feature fine dining, live music, dancing, plus a silent and live auction. Bid items include tickets to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a hot air balloon package and more. Tickets are $150 each; just 250 will be sold.  Tickets can be purchased at 3 Chorister Place, Flemington on Saturdays from 10 am until 2 pm or through the mail by check.

Visit the Tricentennial Committee’s website for more details.
