corn and tomatoes

Attention foodies: The first annual Corn and Tomato Festival will be held Sunday, August 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. on the lawn behind Teaberry’s Tea Room, 2 Main Street, Flemington. For $10, participants can sample dishes that feature the locally grown title vegetables. Chefs from participating restaurants, including Brunello’s, Matt’s Red Rooster Grill, The Grill Shack, Main Street Manor B&B, and Teaberry’s, will compete in a cook off for a people’s choice award voted on by participants. Recipes in the running for the award include Sweet Corn Ravioli with Brown Butter Basil Sauce and Warm Cherry Tomato Compote, Smoked Corn and Tomato Bacon Chutney on a Grilled Scallop, Tomato and Corn Salad with Fresh Mozzarella and Basil with a Black Cherry Balsamic Dressing, Roasted Corn and Tomato Bruscetta on Crostini, and Cheddar Corn Scone with Tomato Conserve and Clotted Cream. Chefs will also provide cooking demonstrations and copies of their recipes to take home.

The Flemington Restaurant Association and the Flemington Business Improvement District sponsor the event. They hope the festival will grow in the coming years, drawing locals and visitors, adding to Flemington’s reputation as a cultural destination.

Adding to the culture during the festival, singer Christine Martucci will provide musical entertainment. Martucci is a New Jersey native and has been compared to Janis Joplin for her soul-filled voice and emotional songwriting.

The event will also feature a wine and beer garden by Gallo Rosso Bar and Restaurant and desserts by Cocco’s Gelatos. The participating restaurants have donated door prizes to be awarded every half hour, culminating in a grand prize drawing for a foodie basket worth $400. Tickets that include food tasting, door prize entries, and entertainment, can be purchased through the Flemington Business Improvement District’s website.
