The holiday season is a magical time of year, but it’s also one of the busiest seasons filled with cozy gatherings and joyful celebrations. But behind the hustle and bustle, it can also feel overwhelming – trying to juggle family expectations, end of the year responsibilities and what seems like an endless to-do list. That’s why it’s important to practice intentional self-care during the holidays. Here are some easy ways to be gentle with yourself during this holiday season.

Dedicate Time to Rest

Between late-night holiday parties, travel to see family and prepping food and gifts for your celebrations, sleep often ends up at the bottom of the to-do list. Making time to rest, even if it’s a small gesture like moving bedtime up a bit earlier, taking 20 minutes to sit down in the afternoon, or dedicating one night a week to no commitments, will make a difference.

Set Boundaries and Stick to Them

Before your schedule fills up fast, give yourself permission to say no. If a holiday party doesn’t make sense in your schedule or if it feels like it’s too much, politely decline. Simplify your gift list, and limit your time with people who drain your energy. Boundaries are essential to maintaining balance and peace.

Make Time For What Brings You Joy

The holidays can become about doing things for everyone else. Take time to reconnect with your own traditions and hobbies that bring you joy – whether that is baking your favorite seasonal treat, watching an old favorite movie, trying a new hobby, or spending time with someone who grounds you. Your holiday experience matters too.

Nourish Your Body

When you stray from your daily routine, it’s easy to forget to drink enough water, eat well-balanced meals and move your body. Amidst the holiday treats, try to incorporate whole foods, plenty of water and nourishing meals.
