The 4th of July is a time to bring family and friends together to celebrate our independence, remember our troops, and enjoy all that the summer months have to offer. Here are four ways to get the most out of our young nation’s favorite holiday.

Antique Car Shows
A fun outside activity, especially for those interested in cars and history, is checking out a showing of antique cars. There are a few ways to do that here in Hunterdon county over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. There will be vintage restored race cars on display at the Lebanon Borough parade held on July 4th at 9am.  There is also the great crate race where you can see old cars, trucks, and tractors as well as a soap box derby race on lower ferry road in Delaware township on the 4th at 9:30am.

Outdoor Concerts
Summer is a great time to get out and hear some tunes. We have options for all sorts of musical tastes here in the Hunterdon area over the holiday weekend. The Music Under the Stars free, open air, concert series at Deer Path Park is presenting the Allentown band on July 3rd from 7pm-9pm followed by a fireworks display.  The Solitude House museum in High Bridge hosts a picnic on July 4th from 1pm-5pm and Allan Willcockson will be performing live music.

Parades
Parades on July 4th weekend are an American tradition. Lebanon borough is holding a veterans themed parade on the fourth starting at 9:30am on Main Street. You can even participate by decorating a bike or stroller, registration starts at 8am and judging is at 9am.

Fireworks
No 4th of July Celebration is complete without the familiar boom of fire works. In Hunterdon, in addition to the fireworks at the summer concert series, the Flemington Raritan Parks and Recreation department will put on its annual Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration on July 3rd at Reading-Fleming Intermediate School.  The fireworks will start at about 9 p.m.  There are also fireworks to enjoy in nearby areas like at the North Branch park in Bridgewater where festivities start at 5pm on the 4th followed by fireworks at 9:30pm and at Peddlers Village in Lahaska Pa where the July 2nd event starts at 4pm and ends with a fireworks display at around 9:15.
