Memorial Day Weekend is known as the unofficial start to summer, but more importantly it is a day to remember and honor our fallen heroes who have served in the United States armed forces dedicating their lives to our country, its citizens, and our democracy. This guide will help you plan a weekend of meaningful ceremonies, festive activities, and local events that recognize U.S. military personnel and their courageous commitment to our freedoms.

Federal Twist Vineyard will be hosting a Red, White, and Blue Charcuterie Workshop on May 24 from 1pm to 2:30 pm. Enjoy beautiful May weather at Beneduce Vineyards’ Memorial Day Picnic on May 26, starting at 12 pm. Enjoy delicious food, wine, live music by Allan Willcockson, and other special events! It is recommended to make a reservation in advance. Walk in seating will be available as space allows.

Memorial Weekend at Alba Vineyard is a great way for those 21 and older to kick off the start of summer. Enjoy the warm weather while sipping on delicious wine and tasting yummy food! Alba Vineyard will host live musical performances the entirety of the four-day-weekend– Friday through Monday.

Parades & Ceremonies 

Monday, May 26 || 10am
Union Township, NJ

Join the Township of Union Veterans’ Alliance for their annual Memorial Day Parade on Memorial Day at 10am. The parade will begin at VFW on High Street. Spectators are encouraged to watch the parade from Pearl Harbor Square on Stuyvesant Avenue for the best viewing experience. Entertainment will include military units and vehicles, floats, show cars, Clydesdale horses, and civic and youth organizations. Be sure to check out music by the Uptown String Band and a Revolutionary War battle reenactment. The reenactment will take place at 11:30 am at Veterans Honor Roll & Memorial Park.

Elm Grove Village Park

The Elm Grove Junior Memorial Day Parade began in 1947 with a flag raising ceremony! At this ceremony, groups of children trailed behind on their bikes, enjoying the special moment intended to honor our veterans and fallen heroes. This year the parade will begin at 10:30am on Memorial Day, Monday May 26. The Grand Marshall who will be honored at the parade is John Mathie, Sr, who joined the US Air Force in 1950, served for 5 years, completed 34 combat missions in the Korean War, and received several honorable medals. 

Saturday, May 24

Tabernacle Township will host their Memorial Day Parade on Saturday, May 24. Join your community in remembering and mourning the loss of our troops who have served in the United States armed forces. The parade will begin at 10 am at Seneca High School. 

Monday, May 26 || 8:15am
Somerville, NJ

Somerville is hosting their Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony at 8:15am beginning at the corner of Culver Street and East High Street and concluding at Somerville New Cemetery at the ‘Veteran’s Circle’ for a ceremony at 10am to highlight the real reason for the long weekend–commemorating our veterans and fallen heroes for their service and dedication to our country and its citizens. This year’s parade is organized by the Veterans Affairs and Senior Citizens Committee with veteran, local community group, and Somerville resident participants.

Monday, May 26 
Califon Borough, NJ

Join Califon’s Parks and Recreation Committee for The Califon Memorial Day Parade, Kid’s Bike Parade, and Memorial Service. The event will be held on Memorial Day this year– Monday, May 26. 

Murph Workouts

The Murph Workout is intended to honor Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy and all those who sacrificed their lives for our country. It consists of a mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 squats, and concludes with another mile run. Every year CrossFit gyms, military members, veterans, and civilians participate to commemorate Memorial Day!
