It’s spooky season here in Hunterdon County. Local festivities include ghost tours, haunted houses, and just about everything else that screams October. Gather your friends and family and hold them close because these occasions are bound to send goosebumps up your spine. This guide will help you navigate the spookiest events and activities to participate in this Halloween season.

Fall Fun at Schaefer Farms

When: September 26th – October 31st
Where: 1051 County Route 523, Flemington, NJ

Bring your family for a scenic hayride to 40+ acres of home grown pumpkins. Prices are $10 a person for entry, children under 8 and veterans ride free. This includes access to the hayride, corn maze, hay maze, feeding farm animals and parking. Come out every Saturday & Sunday, starting on September 26th, the same weekend as the Saucetoberfest. The farm stand will also be full of farm harvest. Take home apple cider, fresh baked pies, breads and more.

Fall Weekends at Snipes Farm

When: October Saturdays 9 am – 6 pm, Sundays 10 am – 5 pm
Where: 890 W Bridge Street, Morrisville, PA

Fall weekends at Snipes Farm begins this October and there’s a lot of fun activities to experience. Admission is $8 for age 3 and above, 2 and under are free. Visit the Big Red Barn with Halloween items, pumpkins, gourds, fresh cider, cider donuts and pie. There’s also a hay pyramid, straw bale maze, wooden maze, two playgrounds, farm animals, Cluckingham Palace, a pumpkin patch, nature trail, land of scarecrows and pick-your-own flowers. All proceeds from fall weekends support Snipes Farm and Education Center’s mission to model and teach sustainable farming while building community and connecting people to the land. Learn more here. The Great Pumpkin Farm

When: Open everyday through Nov. 1, 10 am – dusk
Where: Doyle’s Farm, 110 Summer Road, Flemington, NJ

The Great Pumpkin Farm is open EVERY DAY through November 1st from 10am until DUSK. Admission is $10 per Person (2 & Under is Free & does not require a ticket). Admission applies on Saturdays, Sundays, & Columbus Day Monday. Your admission includes Boo Barn, cow train ride, playground and hay maze, Contests and Crafts and loads of entertainment, including a magic show, character balloons, and more.

Other attractions for an additional charge include: a 5 Acre Cornmaze, Gem Mining, Hayrides, Zombie Train, and Slingshots. Also OPEN: Halloween Decoration Store, Bakery and Candy Store, Donuts and Cider, Fair Food, Witches Brew Bar, Haybales, Cornstalks, Gourds, Mums, Loads of Entertainment, and of course Zillions of Pumpkins!

WeekDAYS are FREE (Except Columbus Day Monday Oct. 12) 10am till dusk and DO NOT require a ticket. Attractions and Entertainment are NOT OPEN. Here is what we do have open on a weekday: Halloween Store, Bakery and Candy Store, Playground, HAYmaze, Pumpkins, Cornstalks, Gourds, and Haybales for Sale, Small Farm Animal Exhibit (*Due to NYS Guidelines No Petting or Feeding the Animals)

Cervenka Farm

When: Open through late fall, 7 days a week, 9 am -6 pm
Where: 179 Klinesville Road, Flemington, NJ

Cervenka Farm, family owned since 1920 is located on 138 acres in the rolling hills of Hunterdon County. The farm offers a seasonal assortment of the finest fresh produce from their farm as well as other local and select national farms.

Sugar Maple Jerseys

When: Saturday & Sunday, 10 am – 4 pm
Where: 835 Sergeantsville Road, Stockton, NJ

Looking for fresh baked Pennsylvania Dutch pies, local apple cider,  corn stalks, pumpkins, mums and gourds? Stop by Sugar Maple Jerseys in Stockton. The small town farm store is open and fully stocked with all of their own pasture raised meats, single source dairy products and charcuterie.

30 Years of Fears

When: October 8-9, 15-16, 22-23, 29-30, 7 pm – 10 pm
Where: Red Mill Museum Village, 56 Main Street, Clinton, NJ

10 Acres of frights and scares with over 50 live performers, 3 petrifying structures and a haunted hayride is guaranteed to be the highlight of your Halloween. Ticket sales are online and at the gate start at 5 PM and end at 10 pm. All tickets sold by 10 pm are guaranteed passage through the terror! If you want to skip the long wait in line, express tickets are available.

Farm of Horrors

When: Saturday, September 25th, Every Friday, Saturday & Sunday in October and November 5 – 6
Where: 1051 County Route 523, Flemington, NJ

Spend 45 minutes making your way through 200+ acres of fright. It starts with a hayride that scares the “yell” out of you. Then, get dropped off in the middle of nowhere for a treacherous trek through the “trail of terror.” Just when you think you’re almost home, realize the only way back is through the MassAcre Maize. Once that’s over, enter your final nightmare, the Carnevil of Chaos!

Ghost Tours of New Hope

When: Month of October
Where: Corner of Main and Ferry, by the Benjamin Perry Mansion, New Hope

Don’t disappoint our ghosts by missing out on their stories! Head out on ghost tours of New Hope on Saturday nights at 8:00. Meet at the corner of Main and Ferry by the Benjamin Parry mansion.

Halloween Train Ride

When: Select dates (Oct. 1 – 31)
Where: New Hope Railroad, 32 West Bridge Street, New Hope, PA

The Halloween Event operates on select dates in October and the entire excursion takes approximately 40 minutes. The event is suitable for children ages 13 and older and leaves from the New Hope Train Station, rides through the unknown and returns back to New Hope.

Fright Fest Family Matinee: The Shining

When: October 29, 8 pm
Where: Hopewell Theater, Hopewell, NJ

Academy Award winner Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall star in the director Stanley Kubrick’s adaption of Stephen King’s disturbing blockbuster horror novel. Writer Jack Torrance (Nicholson), a former alcoholic, accepts a job as the winter caretaker for a hotel high in the Rocky Mountains, isolating him, his wife (Duvall), and their psychic young son until spring. But when the first blizzard blocks the only road out, the hotel’s stored energy from evil past deeds begins to drive Jack insane…and there may be no escape for his family in this haunting story of madness, memory and violence.

Fright Fest Family Matinee: Poltergeist

When: October 28, 7 pm
Where: Hopewell Theater, Hopewell, NJ

A typical family in a quiet suburb of a normal California faces a frightening ordeal when their home is invaded by a Poltergeist. Late one night, 10-year-old Carol Anne Freeling (Heather O’Rourke) hears a voice coming from inside the television set. At first, the spirits that invade the Freelings’ home seem like playful children. But then, they turn angry. When Carol Anne is pulled from this world into another, Steve and Diane Freeling turn to an exorcist in this horror classic from director Tobe Hooper.

Fright Fest Family Matinee: Beetlejuice

When: October 30, 4 pm
Where: Hopewell Theater, Hopewell, NJ

Michael Keaton, Academy Award-winner Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, and Winona Ryder star in director Tim Burton’s comic twist on supernatural horror tales – Beetlejuice. When a couple of nice, young homebody ghosts (Baldwin and Davis) try to haunt the pretentious humans who have moved into their house, they ask for help from a demonic wraith (Keaton) they cannot control in this comic fantasy that mixes the quick and the dead with a laugh and a fright. Winner of the Academy Award for Best Makeup.

Fright Fest Family Matinee: The Witches

When: October 30, 1:30 pm
Where: Hopewell Theater, Hopewell, NJ

Anjelica Huston stars in this fantasy, based on a Roald Dahl book about a little boy and his kindly grandmother thwarting a coven of witches who want to rid Britain of children by turning them into mice. Vacationing at a seaside hotel with his grandmother, a young boy discovers that a convention of witches is also staying there and finds out about the evil plans of their Grand High Witch (Huston). Jim Henson devised the creature effects in his last film.

ACME Halloween Film Festival

When: October 22nd @ 7 pm – October 24 @ 7 pm
Where: Acme Screening Room, 25 South Union, Lambertville, NJ

The festival is a weekend long event hosted by master of ceremonies, Ivonna Cadaver, featuring a selection of films, as well as guest speakers, SFX makeup demonstrations, a reading of scary stories and more celebrating the fall season. A panel of judges will be awarding the spookiest, scariest and all around creepiest films coveted Golden Pumpkin as well as the title of Best Picture. An audience selection for Best Picture and Best Short will also be announced.

The Haunted Red Mill Halloween Party/Extravaganza

When: October 30th, 7 pm – 11 pm
Where: Red Mill Museum Village, 56 Main Street, Clinton, NJ

Halloween Party/Extravaganza at the Haunted Red Mill in Clinton, NJ, celebrating 30 Years of Fears. 30 years of providing frights, scares and fun entertainment to 10’s of 1000’s of our guests.
Age 18+, No children. Admission includes; food and beverages (incl. wine and beer), live entertainment, Creatures of The Night, Special Effects Makeup artists and more. Costumes Optional but preferred. All proceeds are for charity benefiting the nonprofit Red Mill Museum Village.

Happy Haunts

When: October 9, 16 & 23, 10 am – 2 pm
Where: Red Mill Museum Village, 56 Main Street, Clinton, NJ

Happy Haunts is an event designed specifically for children and squeamish adults. It’s a No/Low scare event that includes; a hayride, face painting, donuts and apple cider and a small pumpkin while the last. Tickets sold online and at the gate on the day of the event.

The Great Pumpkin Festival

When: October 30th, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Where: Chirp Workshop, 32 Fulper Road, Flemington, NJ

The Great Pumpkin Festival is back this year with Art Sink. The children will hunt for pumpkins to win a prize, get to stuff-a-plushie Halloween edition, make sand art, decorate your won pumpkin using different materials and best of all, have your face painted by the talented Art Sink. Tickets are limited and there are two time slots to choose from. Dress in costume. Every child in costume gets to enter a raffle to win a SPOOKTACULAR BOO BUCKET. Tickets are $40 per child. Parents do not need a ticket.

Halloween Spooktacular

When: October 23rd, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Where: The Shoppes at Flemington, 100 Reaville Ave, Flemington, NJ

Enjoy a FREE Spooktacular event including trick or treating from store to store, sidewalk sales and great family deals at restaurants. Climb aboard a fire truck, check out a police car and meet and greet your local police, rescue and fire fighters. There will be fun for kids and adults including giveaways, raffles and more. Costumes are encouraged!

Steam Pub

Steam Pub in Southampton is a pub-style restaurant that was a former train station connecting the Bucks County suburb to the rest of the country and allowing Southampton to thrive economically. Steam Pub just released their fall drink menu. A few of the drinks include the Pumpkin Pie Martini, Apple Pie Martini, Spiced Cranberry Mule, Spiked Apple Cider, Maple Cinnamon Latte and more. Steam Pub’s Halloween Party is Saturday, October 30th from 10 pm – 2 am. There will be a costume contest, drink specials and no cover.
