The Venue

Outdoor weddings in rustic, barn settings are still popular, although this fall’s trend is to add a bit of polish with fine china or rich fabrics such as velvet. Hunterdon Happening Wedding Venue Winner Farmstead of Ringoes offers the perfect setting, with the added benefit of the wedding couple arriving by train thanks to Black River and Western Railroad.

The Dress

With cooler temperatures, fall gowns are featuring long sleeves, cashmere sweaters and two piece ensembles. Also popular this season, a second dress for the reception. For designer gowns at affordable prices, check out Hunterdon Happening Bridal Boutique Winner Three Graces Bridal in Lebanon, where the bride makes the choices and the skilled staff offers guidance resulting in a confident, happy bride.

Photography

Another Royal Wedding spillover trend is painted-portrait like photography featuring great lighting and dramatic architectural backdrops or building décor.  Hunterdon County provides a natural backdrop with so many historical settings. Hunterdon Happenings List Winner for Best Wedding Photography Laura Billingham in Frenchtown captures many of those backdrops in her work.

The Food

Gourmet coffee stands and barbecue stations are in favor this fall, which explains how Qclassic Catering by Qcrew BBQ in Ringoes became a finalist as a Hunterdon Happening List Wedding Caterer. And you can never go wrong with our Happening List Winner for Wedding Caterer, 15 Landsdowne Catering.

The cake..or is it pie?

Statement cakes with dark colored icing are in demand this fall, as are wedding fruit pies. Hunterdon is home to the state’s best bakery – Sweet Melissa Patisserie in Lebanon, which can dish up whatever a bride fancies. The bakery is also a Hunterdon Happening List Winner. Pumpkin cheesecake is another popular wedding dessert and no one does it better than Maddalena‘s in Ringoes, another Hunterdon Happening List Wedding Caterer finalist.

The Flowers

Ivy vines, thistle and small leafy twigs are giving bouquets and flower arrangements a whimsical appeal this fall.  Wine-colored dahlias and pampas or wheat grass add a touch of grace. Gather, a Frenchtown-based florist, excels at such arrangements, garnering it Hunterdon Happening List Winner title for Best Wedding Florist.

Invitations

Invitations on natural paper with water color images or plaid or geometric borders and custom calligraphy are in vogue this fall. Plum, burgundy and copper colors highlight the season. Hunterdon Happening List Winner Adori Designs in Pittstown has a wonderful collection to choose from.

Signage

Blackboards as welcome signs at the venue entrance or glass in ornate frames with calligraphied cocktail offerings are replacing paper signs at weddings. Hunterdon Happening List Antique Shop Winner Yesterday’s Treasure in Flemington is a great stop for vintage frames. Dalla Terra in Frenchtown, Hunterdon Happening List Home Décor Store Winner, is the go-to for anything blackboard and galvanized steel.

Music

It’s up to individual taste whether to go with a band or a DJ, but in Hunterdon County, musical acts are expected to put on a visual show. That’s why bands such as Garden State Radio, a Hunterdon Happenining List Winner for Favorite Wedding Band, are so popular. They add lighting and props to make the show memorable. DJs such as Hunterdon Happening List Winner Base Entertainment Group will bring along a photo booth to add to the fun.

Makeup

This fall’s makeup for brides is more au naturale with hues of browns, champagne and burnt orange tones. Hunterdon Happening Make-Up finalist Zanya Spa Salon in Lambertville customizes its makeup application to bring out a bride’s natural glow.
