The Whitehouse Wind Symphony with conductor James P. Sheeley, Jr.

The Whitehouse Wind Symphony, based in Somerville, NJ, and under the direction of Branchburg resident James P. Sheeley, Jr., will present three separate concerts this December at different locations throughout central New Jersey. This annual concert series is one of the most highly anticipated events of the band’s season, and last year was performed to standing-room-only crowds. This year’s family-friendly program, entitled “Peace, Hope and Joy!”, includes band arrangements of classic Christmas carols and favorite holiday songs. Young children are welcome to bring sleigh bells to the concert and, as is tradition with the Whitehouse Wind Symphony, join in the performance of Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride.”

The concerts will take place on Friday, December 4th at 7:30pm at Whitehouse United Methodist Church on Old Route 28 in Whitehouse Station; Sunday, December 6th at 3pm at the historic Hunterdon County Courthouse on Main Street in Flemington; and Saturday, December 12th at 3pm at Liberty Church on West Chestnut Street in Union. The concert in Flemington is presented by the Mediatech Foundation and Flemington Business Improvement District, and serves as a prelude to Flemington’s annual holiday parade. All of these concerts are free admission. Free-will offerings will be accepted at each concert to benefit the band and the presenting church/foundations. In the event of inclement weather, the announcement to cancel any of these concerts will be posted on the band’s website and Facebook page.

These concerts mark the beginning of the Whitehouse Wind Symphony’s 20th anniversary season; the band was founded by conductor emeritus Casey Bork in 1996. Since its founding, the band has grown rapidly, attracting experienced musicians as regular members from all over New Jersey, as well as New York City and eastern Pennsylvania; it is now comprised of approximately 50 amateur and professional musicians who perform together regularly to enthusiastic audiences throughout central and northern New Jersey. It was voted winner of the 2015 Hunterdon Happening List in the category of favorite musician/band. The ensemble continues to present the best in all varieties of wind band literature.
