The East Amwell Historical Society will open up the Clawson House on April 16 and 17.
The East Amwell Historical Society invites everyone to check out the latest round of renovations to the Clawson House on Saturday and Sunday, April 16th and 17th from noon to 3 p.m.
The open house festivities will include tours of the work completed in the home and basement, and a brief discussion of the newest architectural plans that show the front porch and rear additions to the home. In addition, EAHS will have several displays set up, including one which shows the organization’s most recent acquisitions of local history memorabilia.
“We’ve added about 75 new artifacts, which I think everyone is going to get a kick out of seeing,” said Jim Davidson, president of the historical society.
EAHS is raising money and working to convert this historic home, which dates back to the early 1800s, into a museum, community meeting space and small research library.
The house is located at 1053 Old York Road and fronts Marion F. Clawson Park.
Harold and Marion Clawson owned the farm and house for decades. The original builder is believed to be Col. David Bishop, an adjutant of the 3rd regiment in the Hunterdon County Militia who also ran what later became known as Ringoes’ “Upper Store” and helped found the Amwell Academy (now the Harvest Moon Restaurant).
