Percussionist Eric Billowitz has performed with the Whitehouse Wind Symphony since its founding in 1996.

The Whitehouse Wind Symphony, based in Somerville, NJ, and under the direction of Branchburg resident James P. Sheeley, Jr., will be commemorating its 20th anniversary with a special performance at Whitehouse United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 16th at 7pm.

The Whitehouse Wind Symphony was founded by conductor emeritus Casey Bork on April 15, 1996. Since its founding, the band has grown rapidly, attracting experienced musicians as regular members from all over New Jersey, as well as New York City and eastern Pennsylvania. It is now comprised of approximately 50 amateur and professional musicians who perform together regularly to enthusiastic audiences throughout central and northern New Jersey. It was recently voted the winner of the “Hunterdon Happening” list in the category of favorite musician/band for the second consecutive year. The ensemble continues to present the best in all varieties of wind band literature.

At this particular concert, the band will perform an eclectic selection of wind band literature both old and new, from classical compositions to jazz, including a tribute to Louis Armstrong, and “Presidential Polonaise” by John Philip Sousa. Some of the selections, such as “Dam Busters” and the “Overture to Zampa,” have been specially chosen to commemorate the band’s continuation of the Bork family musical legacy in New Jersey, which spans three generations and includes organizations such as the Union County Band and Orchestra Summer School, the Eastern Conservatory of Music and Arts, the Abraham Clark High School band, Imperial Music Center Band, Rutgers University Bands, and several Regional and All-State scholastic ensembles.

All Whitehouse Wind Symphony performances are fun for the whole family – children of all ages are welcome! Admission for the concert is free, although free-will offerings will be gratefully accepted.
