With it’s red and white checkered table cloths, the aroma of delicious garlic, and a slightly disheveled (but extremely friendly) wait-staff running around with wine openers and hot plates of food- Rick’s in Lambertville has that classic, old Italian restaurant charm. Something about the mixture of warm hospitality and bustling activity make me feel right at home.

I went to Rick’s for the first time a few Saturday’s back. As soon as I walked in, I was relieved we had made a reservation; the place was packed. Since Rick’s is a BYOB, there is no bar area to wait. While we did awkwardly wait in the hallway- where we seemed to be in everyone’s way- for about 10 minutes, all anxieties were immediately quieted when our group of six was seated.

The rest of the evening went off perfectly. Rick’s no-nonsense atmosphere was the ideal setting for our group to unwind with a bottle of wine after a long day. We chose from a variety of classic Italian dishes, sampling an antipasta and sharing a large salad to start. For my entree, I chose a tasty vegetable lasagna. Others at my table enjoyed Pork Osso Bucco, Penne alla Vodka, and Crab Cakes Parmesan. The rave reviews were mutual, and in classic Italian style, we all left with full bellies.

A single strand of spaghetti in The Lady & the Tramp, a bottle of red with Billy Joel, & a walk to a VIP table with Ray Liotta- classic Italian restaurants have played an iconic role in American pop culture for generations. Spend a night at Rick’s & make your own scene from an Italian restaurant.
