The Ryland Inn

In honor of President’s Day, we’re taking a look back to President Ronald Reagan’s September 1982 trip to Hunterdon County.

The Ryland Inn

President Reagan arrived at Mercer airport on Air Force One on Friday, Sept. 17, 1982 and then flew by helicopter to the historical Ryland Inn in Whitehouse Station. There, a $500-a-person buffet awaited that raised $100,000 for the Senator Millicent Fenwick campaign.

Reagan then made his way by small motorcade via School Road to the county seat, Flemington, to speak at the Polish American Citizens Club.   Afterwards, he made another speech at St. Gennaro Italian-American Club Feast at the Flemington Fairgrounds before returning to the Ryland Inn for a meeting with 12 Republican Party state chairmen.
