Walter B. Schubert, Jr. will share his talk “Out and Into Life:How to face adversity and thrive”  with the LGBTQ of Hunterdon County of NJ on February 4, 2016 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. The meeting is structure for your teens as well as their parents and other adults interested in the local LGBT community. The meeting is part of the first Thursday monthly series at the North Branch County Library in Clinton.

Walter Schubert, is a well-known and widely respected Securities Industry professional, and a former third generation member of the New York Stock Exchange – NYSE. He has over 35 years’ experience in the Financial Services Industry.

In 1994, Walter became the first openly gay member of the NYSE, and is one of the very few early openly gay individuals in the entire Financial Services Industry. His extensive knowledge and experience in diversity issues, and financial services enabled Walter to lead in the transformation of a more inclusive and welcoming environment at the NYSE, and the financial services industry in general.

Walter became internationally famous in 1999 by founding ‘The Gay Financial Network’, the internet’s first website dedicated to the personal financial interests and challenges of LGBT citizens.
Walter is also Chairman Emeritus, and Founding Board Member of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce – NGLCC. He served on the Board of Directors for 10 years. Schubert was included in the Crain’s New York Business “Technology 100,” Silicon Alley Reporter’s “100 Most Powerful Internet Executives” (for three consecutive years) and was named to New York Magazine’s “The Gay List: the city’s 101 most Influential lesbians and gays” of 2000. Schubert was also named by the NY Daily News as one of “Fifty to Watch in 1999”.

In 2000 he was elected to the National Board of Directors of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbian and Gays (PFLAG). He was re-elected to the Board of PFLAG in 2004 and served as its Treasurer for three years. Walter’s four terms on the Board ended in January of 2009.

In 2009 Walter Schubert was selected as the lead architect, and one of the six council members on the New York Stock Exchange’s Financial Literacy Council. This council is comprised of leading experts on financial literacy in the U.S. whose mission is to increase the financial literacy of employed persons in the U.S.
In 2009, Walter Schubert received the “Liberty Award”, the highest award from the Liberty Education Forum during the Liberty Education Forum National Symposium. The Liberty Education Forum (LEF) is a non-partisan 501(C) 3 organization that focuses on reaching out to conservatives and people of faith.

Beyond his career accomplishments, Walter is a survivor of the attack on 9-11 at the World Trade Center and a cancer survivor. He was one of the few successful participants in the first clinical trial of “Yervoy”, the first cancer / immunotherapy “vaccine”. Today, he is 4 years cancer free, and  semi-retired. He is currently a life coach, mentor, and public speaker on a wide variety of topics from Financial Literacy, to how to cope with life’s most difficult problems, and still maintain a positive attitude.
He enjoys playing the piano, writing, and helping those in need. He does extensive work with the homeless, and former convicts trying to help them learn about personal finance, and find jobs. Walter Speaks fluent German, and maintains Securities Licenses Series 6,7,11,24,27,63 and is a Registered Investment Advisor.
