FX's "American Horror Story: Coven" - Los Angeles Premiere Screening

Many locals know that Academy Award nominee, Vera Farmiga, known for her work in Up in the Air, The Departed, and recently, The Judge, was born in northern Hunterdon County.

Talent obviously runs in the Farmiga family. Vera’s youngest of 7 siblings, Taissa, is making waves in Hollywood.  21 years Vera’s junior, Taissa had no interest in becoming an actor (she originally had plans to be an accountant), but made her acting debut in Vera’s directorial-debut Higher Ground (2011). Also playing the lead in the film, Vera wanted to cast someone who was physically similar to play the younger version of her character. Taissa was age 15 and, apart from a school play, had no previous acting experience. The film showcased at the Sundance film festival and she received great reviews. It was after Sundance that Taissa officially decided to pursue acting.

Since her debut, Taissa has been case in the FX series American Horror Story: Murder House (2011) as well as high profile roles in At Middleton (2013), The Bling Ring (2013), Mindscape (2013), The Final Girls (2015), and 6 Years (2015). Look for the her in 2016 in Untitled Warren Beatty project Sarah Completed and In a Valley of Violence Mary Anne Completed.

Farmiga was born and raised in Whitehouse Station. She is the youngest of seven children born to Ukrainian American parents Lubomyra, a former schoolteacher, and Michael Farmiga, a retired computer systems analyst. Her older siblings are Victor, Vera, Stephan, Nadia, Alexander, and Laryssa.
