One thing that is so great about living in a region like Hunterdon County, where the seasons change every few months, is that the foods change too.  The fall comes with an abundance of delicious ingredients like apples, pumpkins, and squash of all kinds. Here is a taste of a few of fabulous fall dishes found around Hunterdon…

55 Main
“We put out our fall menu with some heartier, stick to your ribs kind of dishes” says Jonas Gold, owner and chef of 55 Main, a Hunterdon Happening list winner for best lunch. Chef Gold suggests heavier meals for the colder months such as his pork osso bucco with butternut squash, sweet potato, and pecan risotto. 55 Main strives to use the freshest, local products as well so you can see local apples, potatoes, and squash being used throughout the menu like in one of their fall inspired salads made with pumpkin seeds, apples, dried cranberries, and goat cheese. Yum!

Lovin’ Oven
Fall is a great time to get out the slow cooker and make a stew or chili. Not only are they easy but they can be healthy too. Take a cue from a Hunterdon Happening list winner for Food & Drink: Healthy, Lovin’ Oven in Frenchtown. Another restaurant serious about staying local you will see all of the great local produce from the farms in our area scattered throughout the menu. One dish that caught our eye, however, is the autumn chicken stew with local carrots, fingerling sweet potatoes, and beet greens topped with a puff pastry.

Annie’s

Let’s not forget about great fall inspired soups and sandwiches. Annie’s in Lambertville knows exactly how to do that!  Tomato bisque soup anyone? Paired perfectly with Annie’s ham & cheese crisp or the delicious veggie melt, your fall lunch routine will never be the same!
