Polytech cosmetology students recently scored a coveted first-row seat for New York Fashion Week. Elizabeth Kapral and Jackie Villamil, both from North Hunterdon High School, worked backstage – with just one other hairstylist – to prepare the hair of about 20 models who walked in the show for clothing designer Ontavia Roulette.

The students got the gig after former Polytech student Samantha Fania reached out to the school’s Cosmetology Program in search of volunteers. Samantha, a senior fashion merchandising major at Stevenson University, serves as Ontavia Roulette’s assistant.

“When Ontavia asked me to get hairdressers, I immediately thought of Polytech and how this would be an awesome experience for second-year students,” Samantha said. “ I knew their skill level would be just right for the show.”

Samantha says that both Elizabeth and Jackie rose to the challenge and did not let her down. “The two of them really worked together in a hectic environment and gave Ontavia the look she was going for.”
