There’s always something to do in Hunterdon County! And this weekend is a great weekend for art. Here are our picks for the weekend of January 11 through January 13. You can always find even more things to do by visiting our Event Calendar.

Frost and Flames at Ground for Sculpture

When: Saturday, January 12 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: 80 Sculptors Way, Hamilton

Get up close and watch as master carvers turn huge blocks of ice into art using power saws, chisels, and grit, in locations throughout the park. Throughout the day, enjoy additional experiences facilitated by artists from The Seward Johnson Atelier, who will heat and pour metal in intimate demonstrations sure to ignite conversation and drop-in demos on How to Build a Campfire and Sun Tricks by the knowledgeable staff at REI. As the sun goes down, “cozy up by the fire” at the outdoor warming lounge or catch a unique pop-up performance by one of the early evening’s strolling flame dancers. Timed tickets are required. Purchase tickets here.

Pottery In The Woods at Hunterdon County Arboretum

When: Sunday, January 13 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: 1020 NJ-31, Lebanon

The Hunterdon County Arboretum is offering a course that fuses both nature and ceramics. Take a walk through nature to collect inspiration and talk about textures and images observed for the clay project. Then you’ll take those ideas to the classroom. The instructor will supply objects and materials found in nature, but feel free to bring your own treasures to press into clay. The instructor will fire the projects, and they will be ready to pick up 2 weeks later during office hours. Bring a sketchbook and writing utensil. No experience necessary. Pre-register by calling (908) 782-1158.
