Summer 2016 is finally here and Hunterdon County residents couldn’t be happier! With so much going on around Hunterdon during the season, it’s hard to get bored. Whether you’re looking for a romantic date night idea or an afternoon of fun the whole family will love, you’ll find plenty of things to do in Hunterdon County this summer

Events

New Hope-Lambertville Fireworks & 1st Fridays
New Hope & Lambertville
First Friday of June, July, August, & September

New Hope & Lambertville will host the kickoff to its 3rd season of Friday Night Fireworks, happening on the 1st Fridays of each month.  This dazzling event, put on by the Delaware River Towns Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau enchants viewers as they watch and express their delight in the universal fireworks language of “Ooohh…..ahhhhh.”

Flemington Car Shows

Every other Saturday, The Flemington Car Show is open to the public for free! The entire family will enjoy seeing some of the coolest classic cars on the East Coast. In addition, you’ll find live music performances, featured DJs, face painting, games, and more.

Flag Day Concert
Friday, June 10th from 6:30 to 9:00pm
Hunterdon Historic Courthouse

Through the sponsorship of Mediatech Foundation, the fourth annual concert commemorating Flag Day will take place on Friday, June 10th from 6:30 to 9:00pm. The concert will take place in Borough Park on Court Street behind the Hunterdon Historic Courthouse, and will feature performances by Marshall’s Dixieland Jazz Band and the Whitehouse Wind Symphony.

Indulge in French culture with the whole family! On Saturday, July 12th, Frenchtown will celebrate their 16th Annual Bastille Day Fete. Come and enjoy this year’s “Hats Off” theme by wearing your favorite hat and enjoying all that the day has to offer, including live music, food, sales, activities, raffles, and more. There are plenty of activities for the whole family, including knitting at The Spinnery and a puppet show at the River Union Stage. When the sun sets, gather everyone for the :Movie Under The Stars, featuring the Disney film “Ratatouille.Indulge in French culture with the whole family! Hunterdon County Library Events
Head to the Hunterdon County Library and grab a book! Whether you love reading by the pool or would rather curl up in your air-conditioned basement, there’s nothing quite like reading with your kids. The Hunterdon County Library also hosts a number of events for adults and kids throughout the summer, like Comic Fest on August 6th, 2016 from 10AM to 4PM, where you’ll see collectors items and panel presentations from comic book experts! The library also offers free family concerts every Wednesdayin August as part of their summer concert series. Grab some lawn chairs and blankets and head out with the whole family to see the SummerSwing Orchestra or The Blawenburg Band this summer.

2nd Annual “Not Your Run of the Mill” 5K

It’s back! So start training now! Save the date for the second annual “Not Your Run of the Mill” 5K. This fun and challenging obstacle race is led by some of the top personal trainers in the area. Enjoy a run along the Delaware River – and good times with your friends at the Mill.   The racecourse will be broken up into with fitness stations created by area gyms and trainers from CrossFit Jolt,Pennington CrossFit, CrossFit Summa, and Leah Dillon Personal Training. Festival to follow.

Things to Do

Festival of Ballooning
This year, the 24th annual QuickCheck New Jersey Festival of Ballooning will occur at the Solberg Airport in Readington, NJ. Gather the family for an evening of fun where you’ll see hundreds of colorful hot air balloons and enjoy performances by bands like Third Eye Blind and KC and the Sunshine Band. Tranquility Farms
If you have younger kids, they’ll love Tranquility Farms! Experience the dairy farms, where cows produce hundreds of gallons of milk each day. The greenhouse is also open, where summer annuals and perennials bloom. Be sure to stop by the farm market for some fresh produce throughout the season! And of course, you can’t forget Tranquility Farms Ice Cream! Support local New Jersey farmers and visit Tranquility Farms this summer.

Northlandz
Northlandz is a museum and art gallery dedicated to the great American railways! If your children love trains, they’ll love experiencing Northlandz, which features the Guinness Book of World Record’s largest model railroad. The exhibit has over 8 miles of track, as well as a prominent collection of dolls and dollhouses your kids are sure to enjoy. With so much to see, the curators of Northlandz recommend allocating 2 hours to enjoy everything the collection has to offer. Visit their website for ticket pricing and hours.

Hunterdon Museum of Art
This landmark was once a stone mill listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is now as a regional art center that features work by contemporary artists. This summer, they are featuring exhibits like Interconnections:  The Language of Basketry. They also offer art classes and workshops for children and adults. Old York Cellars
Take your loved one out for a romantic trip to the New Jersey countryside with a wine tasting at the Old York Cellars. They offer indoor picnics and art showings throughout the summer, as well as Wine and Music Under the Stars every Friday night. Other fun events include Wine and Cheese Tastings and Wine Slushy weekends! Check their calendar of events for more information, or register to be a part of a tasting experience today.

Scenic, guided round trip bike ride from Washington Crossing Historic Park to Lambertville/New Hope then proceed to Crossing Vineyards winery for tasting and tour..  Reservations required minimum of  24 hours in advance. Admission: $45

The Flemington Community Partnership, is working towards the concept in an effort to draw crowds to the town. Local breweries, like Conclave Brewing Company, are anticipated to participate.
