Memorial Day is about honoring our fallen soldiers who have fought hard for America and its citizens. Communities throughout Hunterdon County will have music, floats, and waving flags honoring America’s soldiers this Memorial Day Weekend.

Southern Hunterdon

Lambertville Memorial Day Parade
When: May 25th, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
Where: Lambertville, 24 North Union St., Lambertville, NJ 08530
What: Lambertville will celebrate Memorial Day with a parade on Monday, May 25, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. The parade will kick off at the corner of North Union and Cherry Streets. Those walking in the parade are asked to meet in front of the CVS in the parking lot and those driving in the parade will be staged on North Main Street. After the parade, there will be a memorial ceremony at Mary Sheridan Park.

Wine & Music Under The Stars Featuring Phido Band & Pizza Vida Food Truck
When: Friday, May 22nd, 6-9pm
Where: Old York Cellars, 80 Old York Rd. Ringoes, NJ 08551
What: An evening of wine and music on the vineyard. Guests are invited bring their own food or order from our featured gourmet food truck (TBA) and sit back and enjoy the music with a glass of our award winning wine. One of Hunterdon’s fine rock bands, Phido plays music spanning decades from classic rock to modern artists. Their music will have up up and dancing for a good time. Reserved Seating is limited. Pre-purchase well in advance to insure reservation. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. By law, Old York Cellars’ wine is the only alcohol allowed on premise. All coolers will be checked.

Central Hunterdon

Frenchtown Memorial Day Parade
When: May 25th 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Where: Frenchtown American Legion, 510 Harrison St., Frenchtown, NJ 08825
What: The Frenchtown Memorial Day Parade is a long-standing town tradition. The event starts with a patriotic ceremony at the American Legion on Sixth Street. The first stop will be at the Doughboy statue in front of the school where a wreath will be laid, a prayer said and salutes fired.  The ceremony features a 21 gun salate, a flag raising, short speeches from from town officials and bands. A flower boat will be launched in memory of sailors lost at sea. An airplane will make a low pass over the bridge and over the last stop in the Frenchtown Cemetery, dropping flowers. Prayers will be offered at the bridge and the cemetery.

Flemington Memorial Day Parade
When: May 25th 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Where: Flemington Main Street, Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. The parade will be staged on Main Street from Church Street to the War Memorial near the Presbyterian Church.
What: The parade features antique firetrucks, gigantic flags, military vehicles, motorcycles, boy scout troops, the Hunterdon Central Regional High School Marching Band, the Hunterdon County Veterans Alliance, antique and classic cars and more.  Senior veterans will be matched up with cars to ride in at the American Legion property on Route 31. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. on Church Street, turning right onto Main Street, pausing at a reviewing stand in front of the old courthouse, and ending at the Veterans Monument at the end of Main Street. A short ceremony will follow the parade, at the Monument. Kevin Cahalan is master of ceremonies. This year’s main speaker will be the Rev. Mark Spildooren of Flemington, a former Navy chaplain who is pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church of Amwell at Larison’s Corner.

Northern Hunterdon

Califon Memorial Day Parade
When
: May 25th, 11 a.m.
Where:  The parade will start on School Street, proceeding down Main Street and continuing to Califon Island Park.
What:  It will feature bagpipers, the 15th New Jersey Volunteers Infantry Company A, antique cars, Scout troops, area fire and rescue squads and more. In honor of those being remembered, bagpipes will play from the center of the Califon Bridge. A memorial service will be held at noon next to the Califon Veterans Memorial. The National Anthem will be played while local Scouts raise the American flag. The 15th New Jersey will close the memorial service by performing a 21-gun salute. Afterward, Califon Fire Company will have food and drinks for purchase. Also joining the festivities will be the Kona Ice Truck, Fun Fitness on Wheels by Kidz on the Go and more. Community groups and organizations, antique cars and tractors, floats, animals (with their owners), musical ensembles and more are encouraged to participate. Franklin Township Memorial Day Ceremony
When
: Monday, May 25, at 9 a.m.
Where: Franklin Township School
What: The Quakertown Fire Company will hold a Memorial Day ceremony. Refreshments and fellowship will follow at the firehouse.

High Bridge Memorial Day Ceremony
When
: Saturday, May 23, at 11 a.m.
Where: Hoffman Memorial Park,  The park is at the intersection of West Main Street and Route 513, next to the NJTransit commuter parking lot. People are asked to bring a chair if they wish.
What: American Legion Post 188 and the borough Cultural & Heritage Committee join in holding the event to remember all American service people who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Also, the post will honor these members who have died in the past year: Arthur C. “Buddy” Adler” – Army (Korea); Thomas J. Devine – Navy (World War II); Raymond L. Housel (World War II); and Arthur F. Winstanley – Army (Korea).

Raritan River Music Festival
When: May 23rd, 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Where:  Stanton Reformed Church, 1 Stanton Mountain Road (at Route 629), Stanton, NJ 08885
What: Founded in 1989 and now celebrating its 22nd year of service to the community, Raritan River Music has received awards and recognition for its innovative programs from The Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey, Chamber Music America, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, Warren County Human Relations Commission, and Hunterdon County Cultural & Heritage Commission. Raritan River Music Festival favorite from his performances with Eileen Ivers, Ivan Goff from Dublin (Irish uilleann pipes, wooden flute, and whistles) joins Cleek Schrey from Virginia (fiddle, ten-string hardanger, and harmonium) to combine a curiosity in the rich sounds of their instruments with a sonic imagination that ranges from the earliest sean nós airs to new music. Within the lush textures, intertwining drones, and subtle timbres of this duo, Cleek and Ivan interpret old and new material from the Irish traditional and American old time repertoire. They each have journeyed beyond and within to mine depth and sound that offers new sonic perspectives in the way we listen to music.

Raritan Township Memorial Day Ceremony
When
: Monday, Memorial Day, starting at 8:30 a.m.
Where: A short ceremony at the Vietnam memorial in front of the Raritan Township Municipal Building. The Municipal Building is on Route 523, just south of the Route 12 circle.
What: A wreath-laying and short speeches. It’s in remembrance of all veterans but particularly Mike Baldwin and Fred Zyck, township residents killed in the Vietnam war, and organized by Hunterdon County Veterans Alliance. One of the speakers will be Raritan Township Mayor Craig O’Brien, who is an Annapolis graduate and Navy veteran.

Readington Township Memorial Day Parade
When: Monday, May 25th, 10:30am
Where: Whitehouse Mall on Route 22 and continues to the Municipal building
What: A flag-raising ceremony in front of the municipal building will immediately follow the parade. After that, residents can gather at Pickell Park for Community Day events. Residents, veterans, organizations, businesses and classic vehicles are encouraged to participate in the parade.
