GoodWorks, the New Jersey rock band that helps charities with fundraising efforts, will perform at the Baker’s Treat Café in Flemington, on Saturday, May 30 from noon to 3 pm.

In 2013, Baker’s Treat partnered with Ability2Work to train and employ the differently-abled, and assist them in equal access to jobs in their own communities. Baker’s Treat uses its resources to teach individual skills such as baking, cooking, customer service and individual life skills such as nutrition, communication, exercise, reading/writing, responsibility and self-awareness. The organization is self-funded and is staffed by a constant stream of volunteers that includes high school students, clubs, religious groups, parents, teachers and retirees.

“GoodWorks is excited to perform at Baker’s Treat to support the good works they do every day with the differently-abled,” said Paul Lavenhar, GoodWorks band founder. “We know how difficult it is to raise funds and organize events, so performing for charitable organizations like Baker’s Treat is how we give back.”

A few years ago, the GoodWorks band members had an idea to play in diners across the state to raise money for New Jersey Food Banks. In less than 48 hours, the “diner tour” brought in more than $7,500 in donations. Now the GoodWorks band is bringing the concept they championed to other nonprofits and charities through a turnkey program that provides entertainment from the band and marketing support for fundraising efforts — at no cost to the organization.

GoodWorks is the charitable arm of PL Communications, a New Jersey-based marketing communications firm. Founder Paul Lavenhar has worked with many nonprofit organizations and has also been involved in rock bands for the past 30 years. In 2013, Lavenhar founded the rock and soul band GoodWorks, which performs music from the Eagles to James Brown to Bruce Springsteen, to benefit good causes by raising awareness and funds. GoodWorks has helped a school music program, healthcare foundation, special needs service organization, community arts program and a theater group, among others.
