Pre-Flag Day Concert Poster

The music will play on in Flemington!

Through the sponsorship of Mediatech Foundation, the fourth annual concert commemorating Flag Day will take place on Friday, June 10th from 6:30 to 9:00pm. The concert will take place in Borough Park on Court Street behind the Hunterdon Historic Courthouse, and will feature performances by Marshall’s Dixieland Jazz Band and the Whitehouse Wind Symphony.

This concert is free and open to the general public, although a good-will offering will be taken to benefit the bands and Mediatech. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and chairs. In the event of rain, the concert will continue as planned inside the historic courthouse on Main Street in Flemington. The concert will feature upbeat and patriotic music, sure to entertain concertgoers of all ages! Feel free to pack a picnic dinner or enjoy a local meal from many of the surrounding restaurants selling food-to-go.

Marshall’s Dixieland Jazz Band, one of New Jersey’s longest playing groups, will kick the evening off at 6:30pm. The seven-piece band plays original New Orleans favorites, including “Up a Lazy River,” “Jada” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.” The band was started by retired Rutgers professor and piano player, Marshall Stalley, in 1982. Today, the band is comprised of amateur and professional musicians from around New Jersey. For more information, visit marshallsband.com.

The Whitehouse Wind Symphony will take the stage at 7:30pm. The band has become an integral part of the cultural scene in Flemington, regularly performing in and around the courthouse since 2011. This past March, the band performed in a special children’s concert at the Reading-Fleming Intermediate School. The ensemble was founded by conductor emeritus Casey Bork on April 15, 1996. Since its founding, the band has grown rapidly, attracting experienced musicians as regular members from all over New Jersey, as well as New York City and eastern Pennsylvania. It is now comprised of approximately 50 amateur and professional musicians who perform together regularly to enthusiastic audiences throughout central and northern New Jersey. It was recently voted the winner of the “Hunterdon Happening” list in the category of favorite musician/band for the second consecutive year. For more information, visit whitehousewindsymphony.org.

Established in 2003, the Mediatech Foundation is a non-profit organization that operates in the second floor of the Flemington Free Public Library, offering maker activities, coding classes, homework help, computer access, and social video game play. For more information, visit mediatech.org.
