Social Theory Reading Group will meet weekly to discuss texts, learn about the historical conditions responsible for shaping society as we know it today, and to experience the camaraderie of shared intellectual growth. Whether you have an interest in media, politics, language, culture, philosophy, or all of the above, join us each week at 90 Main Street in Flemington from 8-9 PM to explore these topics. Each week, a text will be selected that has something to offer all levels of familiarity. Most will require about 1 or 2 hours to complete, but there is no expectation that anyone will be coming to the meeting with a ‘full’ understanding.
Our goal is to provide an opportunity for everyone to pursue his or her own development in understanding these rich subjects, and to benefit from doing so in the context of a community of similarly curious individuals. We will take some time at the end of each meeting to determine what to read the following week, and we want to take into consideration the preferences of all participating members, so if you have any appropriate texts that you want to discuss, either because you like them, or because you want to achieve a greater understanding of them, be sure to show up with suggestions.
