North Hunterdon Theater Organization’s 2019 Fall Show

Students in the North Hunterdon Theater Organization will perform Little Women on October 17, 19, and 20.  Based on Louisa May Alcott’s novel, the play captures the charm and excitement of that enduring classic. The play is dramatized by Roger Wheeler and published by Baker’s Plays, a subsidiary of Samuel French, Inc.

Set in Civil War-era Massachusetts, Little Women tells the story of four sisters living at home with their mother (double cast with junior Alicia Chapman and freshman Morgan Treece), while their father (freshman Alek Lipinski) is away from home serving as a chaplain in the war. High-spirited Jo (junior Grace Gartlgruber and senior Lexie Miller) appoints herself man of the family in her father’s absence, while elder sister Meg (sophomore Maggie Dean and senior Emily Miljkovic) guides and counsels younger sisters Beth (juniors Amelia Milza and Shayne Piro) and Amy (sophomore Anneliese Johnson, freshmen Taytum Timmerman and Brynn Long). Over four years of time, the March family experiences an array of life-changing events, including a first romance, a heart-warming homecoming, critical illness, the birth of grandchildren, and the passing of a dear family member.

Living next door to the March family are young Theodore “Laurie” Lawrence (senior Ryan Apgar and sophomore Nathan Gilvey), his wealthy grandfather (junior Raymond Setaro), their maid Nellie (junior Emily Young), and Laurie’s tutor John Brook (junior Sam Montemurro and freshman Colin Orban). The housekeeper Hannah (juniors Annie Meyer and Emily Koscinski) assists the March family, while Aunt March (seniors Lizzie Caso and Paeton Horsch) strictly monitors the sisters’ behavior.

Jo, an aspiring author, travels to New York City to further her career. She serves as governess for the children of Mrs. Kirke (sophomore Vanessa Moline), Kitty (senior Rhea Kochhar) and Minnie (freshman Samantha Muller). There, Jo works with newspaper editor Miss Dashwood (junior Emily Young), and meets German-born Professor Bhaer (junior Jo McDevitt and freshman Daniel Decker).

NHTO hopes that the production will encourage people to read the classic Little Women or other titles by the same author. To that end, NHTO is offering $1 off the ticket price of audience members who show that they are reading any of Louisa May Alcott’s novels by bringing their book to the performance.

Faculty advisors for the production are director Mary Meo, theater coordinator and costumer Regina Cavo, set designer Aaron Willsey, and technical theater coach Kevin Byrne.

Showtimes are Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, October 19 at 3:00 and at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, October 20 at 3:00 p.m.  Doors open for ticket sales thirty minutes before curtain. Tickets, at $10 for general admission and $8 for senior citizens and students, are available at the door.  All performances are in the school theater.
